Robert Meachem will sign with New Orleans Saints, per report

The free agent wideout is heading back to New Orleans after his release from San Diego.

Free agent wide receiver Robert Meachem is heading to a familiar home with the New Orleans Saints, according to a report from ESPN's Bill Williamson.

The 28-year-old wideout was the first round pick of the Saints in the 2007 NFL Draft, and he spent his first four years in the NFL with New Orleans before leaving for the San Diego Chargers last year. Unfortunately his time in SD was largely a disappointment. He started only three games for the Chargers and finished with career-lows in both receptions (14), touchdowns (2) and receiving yards (207).

Meachem has never been a primary target for the Saints, with only 25 starts in four seasons. However, he was a stable part of the offense and on special teams. He’ll likely return to the role after just a season away. His best season came in 2009 when he had 45 catches for 722 yards and 9 touchdowns.
