Ravens vs. Bills 2013: Buffalo’s defense impresses at home against Baltimore

Our SB Nation writers are reacting to the Bills win over the Ravens in Week 4.

The Ravens traveled to Buffalo in Week 4 and their business trip ended in a 23-20 loss to the young Bills. Buffalo and Baltimore traded the lead in the first-half but the Bills turned away just before halftime. The Ravens down 20-7 attempted to take over the game in the 3rd quarter and came close to tying the game by the end of the fourth quarter, but settling for a field goal late in the game ended up costing Baltimore a chance to take the lead.

Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco's five interceptions were very hard for Baltimore to overcome as the Bills padded their score in the first-half and built a big enough of lead to last. While Buffalo was held to just three points in the second-half, they had enough juice early to survive with the several turnovers.

Zachary Beard of Baltimore Beatdown believes this game will serve wake-up call of sorts for the struggling offense of the Ravens:

A combination of five Joe Flacco interceptions and a running game which failed to break 25 rushing yards ultimately led to the Ravens demise. Honestly, there's not much to say about this game except that the Ravens need to get their stuff together and come back next week.

Games like this happen, unfortunately, and the Ravens need to bounce back and get ready for next week's game against the Miami Dolphins who are currently undefeated. This next week will be a defining moment for this year's Ravens as their character will be tested. Will they come back strong next week, or will they dwell on this loss and fall into a rut? We will just have to wait and see.

Matt Warren of Buffalo Rumblings was more impressed by the defense than offense in Sunday’s win:

Kiko Alonso had two interceptions of Joe Flacco as the quarterback had an awful day against the Bills defense, throwing five interceptions total. Aaron Williams had himself a day at cornerback in a great effort for the Buffalo defense, reeling in two interceptions himself, and Flacco was spilled for sacks four separate times - twice by Marcell Dareus.

Red zone woes continued on offense, but Buffalo pulled it out with touchdowns from Fred Jackson and Robert Woods. Dan Carpenter added three field goals for the other nine points. C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson both left the game with injuries, but returned later.

The Bills will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns in Week 4 on Thursday Night Football, while the Ravens will also be on the road against the Dolphins next week.
