Michael Bennett injury update: Seahawks DL strained muscle, is ‘OK’

After looking very serious, Bennett’s injury does not appear to be more than a strain.

Jody Gomez-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett was forced to leave Sunday's game with the Houston Texans on a stretcher after having his head whip back.

Fortunately, Bennett only suffered a strained muscle in his neck. There is no timetable for his return, according to the Seattle Times. Bennett, who was acquired as a free agent after playing his entire career for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was thought of as the bookend pass-rusher alongside Cliff Avril.

Head coach Pete Carroll said after the game that Bennett was in pain but ultimately should be alright, per the article:

“They were just really concerned because it was close to his vertebrae. They weren’t sure what it was, so they took good care of him. But he’s OK.”

Seattle has been playing through injuries the entire season, with three of its offensive line starters being out of the lineup against Houston. Breno Giacomini, Russell Okung and Max Unger all sat out, along with recovering wide receiver Percy Harvin and suspended linebacker Bruce Irvin.

The Seahawks next game is on the road against the Indianapolis Colts.
