Redskins vs. Raiders 2013: Washington gets ‘timely victory’

Washington earned its first win of the season by going out West and beating the Raiders.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Redskins defeated the Oakland Raiders 24-14 on Sunday, finally getting their first win of the 2013 season.

Robert Griffin III did not throw for 300 yards for the first time this campaign, but managed the game and ultimately walked off the field happy. Washington's much-maligned defense gave him some help, too, when David Amerson intercepted Matt Flynn and ran it back 45 yards for a touchdown.

Running back Alfred Morris was solid before leaving the game with a rib injury after gaining 71 yards on 16 carries and giving the offense some balance.

Over at Hogs Haven, Mark Tyler is feeling good about the Redskins despite being 1-3:

The abysmal 0-3 start a thing of the past. A victory going into a much needed bye week, and the return of two suspended players(Rob Jackson and Jarvis Jenkins)on the horizon, the Redskins have parlayed their early season woes with a timely victory to ignite a fire in the Nations Capital.

As for the Raiders, they dropped a tough game behind Flynn, who struggled to get anything going throughout the day. Flynn was under duress consistently, partially because he held onto the ball too long at times.

Over at Silver and Black Pride, Levi Damien was far from impressed with the former LSU quarterback:

Flynn was downright terrible. He may have lost the quarterback job in preseason by not doing enough to get the offense going but what he did in this game was much worse than being ineffective. He made mistakes. Big mistakes that cost the Raiders any chance of winning this game.
