Maurkice Pouncey injury: Steelers center scheduled for MCL, ACL surgery

The Steelers center will miss the rest of the season after suffering a severe knee injury against the Titans on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey needs surgery to repair both the ACL and MCL in his right knee after a devastating Week 1 injury, according to coach Mike Tomlin after Sunday's game. The procedure and rehabilitation will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Pouncey was carted off the field Sunday after suffering a severe right knee injury early in the first half against the Tennessee Titans. The center was engaged with a Titans defensive lineman at the 11:02 mark of the first quarter when guard David DeCastro attempted a cut block and instead dove into the back of the legs of Pouncey, who twisted backwards to the ground with his legs caught beneath him.

Drafted in 2010 by the Steelers, Pouncey had started all but three games at center over the past three seasons. The fourth-year center has been named to three Pro Bowls and earned All-Pro honors in each of the past three seasons.

The Steelers would go on to lose the game, 16-9, with the their offense managing just 195 total yards. The Steelers will next travel on the road to take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football on Sept. 16.
