Keenan Allen finishes rookie season with 2 touchdowns in playoff loss to Broncos

Rookie wide receivers don't normally play as well as Keenan Allen did in 2013.

After putting together arguably the best rookie season by a wide receiver since Anquan Boldin, Allen continued to assert himself as a dominant receiver in the postseason. In the Chargers' 24-17 loss to the Broncos in the Divisional round on Sunday, Allen did something no rookie receiver has done since 1992. With six catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns, Allen became the first rookie wideout since Willie Green to have over 100 yards receiving and two scores in a playoff game, according to ESPN Stats and Info.

Allen won't find out whether he held off Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy to win Offensive Rookie of the Year until later this month, but the third-round draft pick was a revelation in San Diego this season. Despite not seeing much playing time until Week 4, Allen posted a 70-catch, 1,000-yard season and found the end zone eight times during the regular season. When times got tough against Denver, Rivers turned to Allen, because the rookie was his most dependable option throughout the season, and it wasn't close.

Maybe Lacy will walk away with the award in a few weeks, but Allen's rookie season is among the best ever at his position, and there was a point where a knee injury and flagged drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine contributed to him falling to the third round, despite his first-round talent.
