Calvin Johnson injury: Lions WR has surgeries on knee, finger

Detroit’s star receiver is getting himself taken care of early in the offseason when it comes to his health.

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson had surgery on his knee last week and his finger on Monday, according to general manager Martin Mayhew. Johnson had a "minor scope" on his right knee, but Mayhew said that it was not related to a PCL injury. In regards to the finger, Mayhew said that the digit in question was pointing "perpendicular to his body" the whole season, and may have affected his play.

What would Megatron had done then with a fully healthy finger? Johnson caught 84 passes for 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games. The Detroit Free Press noted that Johnson dropped 10 passes this season, but perhaps the fixed finger can help him avoid that more often in the future.

He missed two games with a knee injury and removed himself from the Pro Bowl roster.

Johnson has missed just six possible games during his seven seasons. He has caught 302 passes for 5,137 yards and 33 touchdowns over the last three seasons, and much of that has appeared to come with Johnson playing through various injuries and ailments.
