Pro Bowl 2014 draft, Day 1 results: Rosters begin to take shape

Day 1 of the Pro Bowl draft is in the books. Each team began by building its roster from the inside out.

The Pro Bowl rosters won’t be entirely filled until Day 2 of the draft on Wednesday, but they began to take shape Tuesday. Team captains were selected, and the teams drafted interior defensive and offensive linemen, fullbacks and special teams players.

Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders are serving as the alumni captains for the game. The first order of business was picking team captains to help them make the picks. Captain pairings were decided by vote totals. J.J. Watt and Jamaal Charles formed one pair, while Drew Brees and Robert Quinn formed the other. Rice got first choice of captains and picked the combination of Brees and Quinn.

With the captains selected, the teams started filling out the rosters, beginning with interior defensive linemen. Team Sanders took Detroit's Ndamukong Suh first, then acquired Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe. Team Rice landed Dallas' Jason Hatcher and a pair of teammates in Buffalo's Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus.

The picks then moved to the offensive side, beginning with the offensive guard selections. Brees picked his teammates, Jahri Evans and Ben Grubbs, as well as Evan Mathis to fill out Team Rice. Team Sanders picked Marshal Yanda, Logan Mankins and Kyle Long. The teams rounded out Day 1 of the draft by selecting centers, special teams players, punters and fullbacks.
