Super Bowl 2014 Media Day: TV schedule, time, streaming and more

There are a lot of events and activities in the week leading up to the Super Bowl, but none draw more attention than media day. Media members from around the world gather to ask players and coaches questions about anything and everything. Some will relate to football, some will not, but media day rarely lacks entertainment value.

Usually media day occurs at the stadium, but with the Super Bowl being played outdoors and in a cold weather environment, it will be slightly different this year. Instead of being held at MetLife Stadium, 2014 media day will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. You won’t, however, have to be in New Jersey to take in the happenings as there will be television and online coverage.

NFL Network will provide television coverage with the broadcast beginning at 10 a.m. ET. The Broncos are scheduled to meet the media first and will hold their hour-long session from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. There will then be a break before the Seahawks’ media session, which is scheduled to run from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. In addition to the NFL Network coverage, viewers will also be able to stream the event live online via NFL.com.

In the past, media day has served to spice up the Super Bowl matchup a bit with players tossing out “bulletin board material.” That has happened less in recent years, with players being cautious about what they say to avoid controversy. At least one player participating in media day this year knows a thing or two about controversy, and it’s safe to assume Seattle’s Richard Sherman will attract plenty of attention. A throng of media greeted him when the Seahawks arrived in New Jersey on Sunday and that was likely only a sign of things to come.

Even if Sherman saves his trash talking for the field, media day won’t be lacking star power. Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and a host of others will be front and center. Not all players are as recognizable, but it will be a little easier to identify players this year with media day uniforms from the NFL. Seriously, every player will be dressed in a special media day outfit complete with his number on the jacket.

That should help the non-NFL media identify who they are talking to, especially when it comes to the players walking around and not at booths. That is assuming the players play nice and don’t decide to trade jackets to have a little fun. We’ll have to wait and see.
