Browns interested in Raiders QB coach John DeFilippo, per report

The Browns are still searching for their offensive coordinator.

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

The Browns are interested in Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo as a possible offensive coordinator candidate, according to NFL Media's Albert Breer. The 35-year-old has been coaching since 2000 and has served as mainly a quarterback coach at the NFL level. He has been with the Raiders since 2012 and has helped develop Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin.

A former college quarterback at James Madison University, DeFilippo started his coaching career at Fordham as a quarterbacks coach. He then became a graduate assistant at Notre Dame before heading to Columbia to be its quarterbacks coach. After two seasons with Columbia, DeFilippo was hired as an offensive quality control coach for the Giants in 2005. Following the 2006 season, he went to Oakland as the quarterbacks coach. He lasted two seasons with the Raiders before joining the Jets with that same position in 2009.

After a year with the Jets, DeFilippo became the quarterbacks coach for San Jose State. He was with the Trojans from 2010 to 2011. After his second stint in the NCAA, DeFilippo was re-hired by the Raiders under head coach Dennis Allen in 2012.

DeFilippo is one of many coaches being considered for the Browns offensive coordinator job under new head coach Mike Pettine. Other reported candidates include former Texans and Redskins coordinator Kyle Shanahan, former Titans coordinator Dowell Loggains and Bears quarterback coach Matt Cavanaugh.
