Chargers vs. Bengals 2014 injury report: Ryan Mathews probable, Terence Newman doubtful

The San Diego Chargers will likely have running back Ryan Mathews on Sunday, listing him as probable on the official injury report. Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Terence Newman is doubtful.

The Cincinnati Bengals will take on the San Diego Chargers in a wild card matchup on Sunday. One of these teams is much healthier than the other, though both have managed to avoid significant injuries to big names, for the most part.

Cincinnati has the lengthier injury report at this point. The big name is cornerback Terence Newman. The Bengals have been without Newman since he went down with an injury in Week 14, but he was expected to return to practice this week. Unfortunately for Cincy, Newman didn't return until Friday, and he was limited in that session due to the MCL sprain.

If Newman can't go, Dre Kirkpatrick will continue to take meaningful snaps, provided he actually plays. Kirkpatrick is dealing with an illness that has him listed as probable on the day. Other injuries of significance for Cincinnati include tight ends Jermaine Gresham and Tyler Eifert. Both are questionable, though the former has practiced all week.

The biggest name for San Diego is running back Ryan Mathews. He's been playing well of late, but is dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Mathews did return for a limited session on Friday, though, and is listed as probable.
