Andy Dalton’s playoff woes continue in loss to Chargers

Dalton is still winless in the playoffs after coughing up three turnovers on three straight second half possessions in the Bengals’ 27-10 loss to the Chargers.

After going one-and-done in the playoffs during his first two seasons as the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, Andy Dalton felt the pressure of proving his critics wrong Sunday in the first round against the San Diego Chargers. It didn't go so well.

Dalton had three consecutive turnovers in the second half of the Bengals’ 27-10 loss and is now 0-3 in the playoffs. He has thrown just one touchdown to six interceptions in three postseason games.

Dalton went 29-of-51 for 334 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a fumble on Sunday. His second-quarter touchdown pass to Jermaine Gresham was the first postseason score of his career.

The Bengals were trailing by just four points before Dalton’s turnover spree, but were outscored 20-0 in the second half. Midway through the third quarter, Dalton coughed it up for the first time when he fumbled diving untouched for a first down.

On the following possession, Dalton faced pressure up the middle and floated a poor pass into double coverage for his first interception, which was returned inside the 10-yard line for automatic points.

Dalton’s third turnover came on the Bengals’ first drive of the fourth quarter when he made an awful read and failed to see linebacker Melvin Ingram playing underneath coverage.

Dalton almost added a third interception several times during the Bengals’ final drive of the game in garbage time, when three passes went off the hands of defenders in the final minute.
