Jackson is coming off the best season of his career in which he caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns — prompting him to want a restructured contract from the team. Jackson believes he’s worth the investment for his no-nonsense approach to playing, according to a report by Reuben Frank of Comcast Sports.
“But I definitely feel like it’s deserving. I’m proven in this league, and after this past year, went out there, no distractions, and just really put it all in for my team and went out there and had a lot of success, so we’ll see how it goes.”
The ink is barely dry on a five-year, $48 million contract extension signed by Jackson in 2012. He is scheduled to make a base salary of $10.25 million in 2014, but the money decreases in the two years following.
Jackson ranks among the league’s highest earners at wide receiver, but lags behind some of the biggest deals. Mike Wallace was rewarded with a $60 million deal from the Miami Dolphins and trailed Jackson in all statistical areas. He’s just one example of a player who made more while failing to meet the production of the Eagles receiver.
The Eagles’ front office has not made a statement regarding Jackson at this time, and there is no indication Jackson plans to miss any team events in protest.
