NFL roundup: Jeff Ireland and Miami part ways, Gary Kubiak interview and more

Jeff Ireland and the Miami Dolphins parted ways, Gary Kubiak had an interview with the Detroit Lions, plus more you might have missed from Tuesday in the NFL.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins and general manager Jeff Ireland "mutually agreed to part ways" on Tuesday. Ireland had a huge offseason prior to the 2013 season, snagging several big-name free agents and spending an awful lot of money. Unfortunately, that didn't translate to wins, as the Dolphins barely managed to finish 8-8. Ireland has been criticized for many of the off-the-field issues the team has as well, so most figured he might get fired anyway.

Read on for more you might have missed on Tuesday in the NFL:

Kubiak interviews with Detroit

The Detroit Lions interviewed former Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak on Tuesday. Detroit is without a head coach after firing Jim Schwartz at the conclusion of the regular season following multiple disappointing seasons. Kubiak just led the Texans to double-digit losses and was ousted before the end of the regular season, but is regarded as a strong offensive mind.

Allen, Davis not on the same page

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen and owner Mark Davis aren't seeing eye-to-eye when it comes to the team's assistant coaches. Apparently, Davis wants to offer the assistant coaches one-year contracts, while Allen is adamant that they should receive two-year deals. We've already seen one head coach fired over his assistants this offseason, when the Tennessee Titans canned Mike Munchak, so it will be interesting to see where this ends up.

Lewis expects to play

New Orleans Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis expects to play against the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Lewis returned to practice on Tuesday, though there won't be an official injury report until Wednesday. Lewis sustained a head injury in the third quarter of the Saints' game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was on the side line and visibly arguing with the coaches, presumably because he wanted to go back in the game. The team did not let him, however.

Gronkowski to have surgery

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday with Dr. James Andrews to repair his torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. Gronkowski now has an extensive injury history, but this is the first time he's tore an ACL or MCL. He injured his knee in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns and was placed on injured reserve.

Graham wants more playing time

Philadelphia Eagles outside linebacker Brandon Graham wants more snaps next season, whether that be with the Eagles or somewhere else. Graham has dealt with significant injury issues since being a first-round pick in 2010, but looked primed for a big season until it became clear that he wasn't going to get a lot of playing time under new head coach Chip Kelly. He certainly won't command high dollar or anything, but seeing him elsewhere with more playing time would not be surprising.
