Uffsides: Colts vs. Patriots Divisional round preview

The Pats went 8-0 at home this year, but have lost their home playoff game the last two times they accomplished that feat. The Colts, meanwhile, have proven they can beat anyone in the league, but also have an inconsistent streak. So who wins: Belichick, Brady, and a decimated Pats roster? Or Andrew Luck, Robert Mathis, and a mayonnaise-powered fan base? Matt Ufford and the Uffsides crew preview the games and make their predictions.

Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts have made a habit of impressive comebacks this season. They pulled off their best one yet last weekend, coming back from a 28-point third quarter deficit to win, 45-44, over the Kansas City Chiefs. They will have to hit the road this weekend, however, to take on the playoff-savvy New England Patriots.

The Pats are 8-0 at home this season, which is ostensibly good news except that they have lost the last two times they have hosted a home playoff game coming off an undefeated regular season at Gillette Stadium. Not that a statistical oddity is necessarily relevant in 2013, but it is another reason why the Colts shouldn’t be intimidated in Foxborough. Another is that the Patriots are beatable. The roster has been decimated by injuries this season.

That said, Tom Brady is who he is: a confident, driven perfectionist who has won A LOT of games under head coach Bill Belichick. The Pats may be without the likes of Rob Gronkowski, Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo, but they still wield a future Hall of Fame quarterback. The Colts can't say that, at least not yet.
