NFL picks and predictions, Dolphins vs. Bears 2014: Chicago a near-unanimous favorite

The Chicago Bears will beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, at least according to the majority of experts picking the game.

Kevin C. Cox

The Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears are both struggling this season, and both are obviously not where they hoped they would be at this point. But the 2-3 Dolphins and 3-3 Bears have combined for some solid games thus far, and their matchup on Sunday should be plenty exciting as well.

Chicago features a strong passing offense and a stout rush defense, while Miami has a strong rushing offense and one of the league’s top passing defenses. The strengths matchup perfectly for an interesting game, though the Dolphins tend to run the ball and stop the pass better than the Bears throw the ball and stop the run.

That said, the Bears have faced the better competition thus far this season. While the Dolphins sport a quality win over the New England Patriots, they've lost to the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. Chicago, on the other hand, managed to down the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons while losing a close one to the Carolina Panthers.

Whatever the case, the game should be a close one. But the experts picking around the Internet seem to think that won’t be the case. Over at CBS Sports, seven of the eight experts went with the Bears, with John Breech being the lone dissenter picking Miami. It’s a similar situation over at ESPN, where 12 of the 13 experts are picking Chicago as well. Both of the experts at Yahoo! Sports are going with the Bears.

That said, of the seven experts picking for SB Nation, none of them went with Miami. All of Ryan Van Bibber, Stephen White, Joel Thorman, David Fucillo, Danny Kelly, Matt Ufford and even PFT Commenter are going with the Bears to win. You can find the full SB Nation Week 7 picks here.

Despite these two teams being pretty close on paper, nobody seems to think Miami can pull it off. Vegas is also leaning toward the Bears who opened as 3.5-point favorites, according to OddsShark.
