The Indianapolis Colts had a rough start to their 2014 campaign, falling to the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2. But the Broncos and Eagles are solid teams, and the losses don't look too bad on the record now that the Colts have powered through their last four opponents by a combined score of 138-75, including two games of 40-plus points scored.
Bengals vs. Colts 2014: Andrew Luck, Andy Dalton duel in Week 7
The Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts have trended in opposite directions in recent weeks, but both are fighting for the top spot in their divisions on Sunday.

The Cincinnati Bengals got off to a much better start, handily winning games against the Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans before an early Week 4 bye. Unfortunately, their grip on the AFC North has loosened in recent weeks, thanks to a terrible showing against the New England Patriots in Week 5 and a rare 37-37 tie against the Carolina Panthers in Week 6.
That said, both teams feature strong offenses and both are fighting to stay atop their respective divisions. Their Week 7 matchup is one of the highlights of this Sunday’s slate of games.
Digits
On paper, the Colts look much better than the Bengals at this point. Indianapolis ranks first in the NFL in passing yardage, with 328.7 passing yards per game on average. But the running game is also working to an extent, with 115.3 rushing yards per game. That's 16th in the league for a rushing offense that wasn't expected to produce at all. Fortunately, Ahmad Bradshaw is playing well with a 4.7 yards-per-carry average, because Trent Richardson still hasn't lived up to his draft positioning.
Cincinnati, to its credit, has looked solid on the offensive side of the ball as well. Andy Dalton looks like he's truly among the NFL's better quarterbacks this year, and he's got the Bengals ranked eighth in passing offense with 269.6 passing yards per game on average. They've also got the No. 12 rushing offense at 127.4 rushing yards per game on average.
But the defensive side of the ball is where this all breaks down. The Bengals haven’t been able to stop anybody, as they rank 29th in the league in rushing defense and 22nd in the league in pass defense. Where they allow 141.4 rushing yards per game and 257.4 passing yards per game, the Colts allow 107.5 (11th) and 233.0 (14th), respectively.
Who to watch
T.Y. Hilton: Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has been very impressive this season, especially in the team's last game against the Houston Texans. Hilton caught all nine passes thrown his way, putting up 223 yards and a touchdown. On the season, he has 40 receptions for 604 yards, but just the one touchdown. Still, he's a player to watch going forward.
Mohamed Sanu: Bengals receiver Mohamed Sanu stepped into a prominent role early in the season thanks to an injury to Marvin Jones, who is now out for the season. But Sanu's role took on even greater importance in Week 6, as A.J. Green missed the game with a toe injury. Sanu rewarded the Bengals with 10 receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown.
Andrew Luck: Quarterback Andrew Luck has the Colts on the verge of their longest winning streak since he took over for Peyton Manning. Luck is tops in the NFL with 1,987 passing yards, significantly ahead of the next four quarterbacks: Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, Tom Brady and Jay Cutler . Luck has also thrown the most touchdowns in the NFL with 17, two more than Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Rivers.

The venue
Lucas Oil Stadium is one of the best-designed venues in the league. It opened in 2008 and is still one of the nicer places to play in the NFL. It’s hosted Super Bowls and will host plenty more before its done. That said, it’s not one of the louder stadiums in the league, though the Colts do typically play well at home. It’s not regarded as a particularly tough place to play for opposing teams but it’s always sold out and packed with Colts fans.
Odds
The Colts, the home team, opened the week favored by three points. That line has moved very slightly, with some sites listing them at -3.5, according to OddsShark.
Preliminary judgment
The seven experts with SB Nation aren’t particularly split on this game. Matt Ufford and PFT are the only two of the seven picking the Bengals, while Ryan Van Bibber, Stephen White, Joel Thorman, David Fucillo and Danny Kelly think the Colts will win it. The full Week 7 picks can be found here.
