Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will not play Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The rookie was listed as questionable throughout the week with a sprained left ankle and couldn't give it a go on short rest.
Teddy Bridgewater will not play Thursday night; Vikings to start Christian Ponder
The Vikings will start Christian Ponder on Thursday night as Teddy Bridgewater sits with an ankle injury.
Bridgewater suffered the injury late Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. In his debut as the starter, he threw for 317 yards to help lead the Vikings to the 41-28 win. A limited participant in practice this week, Bridgewater held out hope he could play, but coach Mike Zimmer didn't want to test the injury in possibly rainy conditions.
Christian Ponder will be making the start for Minnesota. The team signed quarterback Chandler Harnish from the practice squad to the active roster on Thursday afternoon, and he'll backup Ponder with Bridgewater on the shelf this week.
The 2-2 Vikings outscored a potent offense last Sunday, and they'll be traveling to Lambeau Field to stop a Packers' passing attack that broke out of its slump last week. One key to that is running backs Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon. In the absence of Adrian Peterson, those two have combined for 301 yards and three scores.
