Houston Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is inactive for the team's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday. Clowney has a knee injury he sustained against Washington in the season opener and has missed every game since then. He was forced to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery following that game for a torn meniscus.

The rookie won’t be making his return on “Monday Night Football.”

Clowney managed to return to practice for the first time on Friday, though he had a brace on his right knee. Getting in that practice session was a big deal, but head coach Bill O’Brien still maintained that Clowney would be a game-time decision. However, the fact that he’s not playing isn’t necessarily an indicator that things didn’t go well at practice. Rather, the coaching staff didn’t feel that Clowney’s lateral movement was where it needed to be in order to play.
The No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Clowney was expected to come in and make an immediate impact as a pass rusher. Whitney Mercilus has started in his place and has played well, though, and the Texans have managed to put up a 3-3 record. Houston's game against the Steelers should be a tough one, but it's a winnable game even without Clowney's presence on defense.
