Remember this moment, this call; it could end up being a big one if the San Diego Chargers end up losing to the Denver Broncos. It looked like Broncos kick returner Andre Caldwell fumbled the ball. The refs on the field agreed, and San Diego was able to gain possession when Ladarius Green recovered it on the Broncos' 28-yard line and the score tied, 7-7, with just about three minutes to go in the first half.
Officials overturn controversial Broncos fumble
Was Andre Caldwell’s forearm down or not when the ball started to come out?
But the replay official challenged the ruling on the field. The folks in the command center in New York took a closer look and overturned the call. No fumble. Now take a look and decide for yourself.
For the replay official to overturn the call, there has to be indisputable video evidence to do so. Does that look like indisputable evidence?
The league later said that Caldwell’s forearm was down before the ball started to come out. It looks like that might be the case, but it’s still not enough for some upset with the call. There are still most of two quarters left to play. The Broncos now lead, 21-7. If it keeps going at that pace, the fumble may not matter, but if the game ends up being a narrow Denver win (the spread was -9.5 for Denver), you can expect to hear some grumbling.
