San Diego Chargers safety Jahleel Addae was diagnosed with a concussion on Friday, according to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego. The concussion is the result of Thursday's game against the Denver Broncos, though Addae played the full game. Addae suffered a big shot on the first play of the game, and made a tackle late in the third quarter that had him stumbling and dazed on his feet.

Despite this, Addae returned to the game for the fourth quarter and wound up playing on 54 of the 71 defensive snaps. There’s been concern and outrage of the Chargers’ decision to allow Addae to come back to the game. For what it’s worth, head coach Mike McCoy said that the Chargers followed “proper medical procedure” after Addae had the two hits, according to the Associated Press.

The Chargers said that Addae had a stinger, but there was no mention of a concussion. Whatever the case, there are going to be plenty of questions about the decision to let him play going forward. It’s certainly possible that those conducting the tests were fooled by Addae, but nobody missed his stumbling on the field and the policy in the NFL is supposed to err on the side of “better safe than sorry.”

McCoy said that there are “a number of people that are out there doing their job and looking at all those things and evaluating players on the sideline,” and that there are “a ton of people there evaluating that.”
