Griffin's return has been the subject of considerable conjecture and debate since a dislocated left ankle sidelined him in Week 2. For a time, Kirk Cousins outperformed the 2013 Rookie of the Year, leading to speculation that head coach Jay Gruden preferred the more traditional pocket passer to the mobile Griffin. Cousins' productivity eventually went off the rails, with a four-interception performance against the division rival New York Giants quieting such talk.
Colt McCoy eventually replaced Cousins, and helped Washington upset the division leading Dallas Cowboys this past Monday. Despite McCoy's strong showing, it appears the coaches remain committed to Griffin, who is now healthy enough to play.
Griffin has endured two other major injuries since high school. In 2009, he tore an ACL during the third game of Baylor's season. He re-tore the ligament three years later during a playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.
