The New York Jets are making another switch at quarterback. Geno Smith is now the starter again after Michael Vick was ineffective in a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills, according to the team.
Geno Smith replaces Michael Vick as Jets starting quarterback
The Jets are once again going with Geno Smith as their starting QB after Michael Vick was ineffective against the Bills.

Smith, who replaced Vick on Monday night during a 38-3 loss in Detroit to the Bills, will get the start on Monday Night Football this week against the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Rex Ryan met with both quarterbacks Wednesday morning and informed them of the decision. This will be the second QB switch the Jets have had this year, and it's hard to see them going back to Vick if Smith can at least stay healthy.
This makes sense, given the fact that Vick is near the end of his career at age 34 and the 2-9 Jets are in rebuilding mode. Smith is just 24 and, in theory, still has room to grow into a potential starting NFL quarterback, though he’s looked like anything but for much of his first two pro seasons.
He played so poorly this year that the team benched him in Week 9 in favor of Vick. In the nine games Smith has played in this year, he’s completed just 57.6 percent of his passes for 1,459 yards and seven touchdowns while throwing 10 interceptions and taking 17 sacks.
In nine games, Vick has completed 52.9 percent of his passes for 604 yards and three scores while throwing two picks and taking 19 sacks. Vick suffered a foot injury during Monday’s loss to the Bills, so it’s possible that had a part to play in the Jets’ decision to go with Smith against the Dolphins. Either way, his performance was bad enough that Smith had to replace him in the third quarter.
The change at quarterback comes one day after reports emerged that the Jets are planning on firing Ryan after the season.
