San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is expected to serve the full term of his nine-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse and personal conduct policies, per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. The team had opened up a roster spot this week, but it will apparently not be filled by Smith.
Aldon Smith expected to serve full suspension

There was some speculation a couple weeks ago that Smith could have had his suspension reduced due to good behavior, but that does not seem to be the case. He will now be eligible to return for the team's Week 11 matchup against the New York Giants.
Smith was suspended in August after being sentenced on weapons and DUI charges from separate arrests in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Smith was also involved in an incident at LAX airport, during which he reportedly became disorderly with authorities and said he had a bomb.
The outside linebacker has been one of the league’s best pass rushers since his debut four seasons ago, totaling 42 sacks from 2011-13, the second-most by any player in that span. His 42 sacks are also the third-most by any player in his first three NFL seasons (since sacks became official in 1982), behind only Derrick Thomas (43.5) and Reggie White (52).
