The NFL informed inactive Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson on Thursday that the league will consider disciplining him under its personal conduct policy for the child abuse incident he was involved in earlier this year, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The news comes just two days after Peterson reached a plea deal in the child abuse case, reducing the charge to misdemeanor assault.

The Vikings running back now has to deal with the NFL for potential discipline for the child abuse incident involving his son earlier this year.

Peterson has been instructed to submit relevant information about the case to “designated experts” who will review the matter and make a recommendation to commissioner Roger Goodell. He will also have the chance for a hearing with the league before being disciplined, if he is disciplined. Peterson will remain on the commissioner’s exempt list until the disciplinary process is resolved. No timeline was reported for Peterson’s disciplinary process.
On Tuesday, Peterson plead no contest to one count of misdemeanor assault for hitting his 4-year-old son with a tree branch, a “switch,” earlier this year. He was forced to pay a $4,000 fine and carry out 80 hours of community service as part of the court’s decision. He will also be placed on probation. Peterson was initially charged with reckless or negligent injury to a child, a felony, in September.
