The season has not gone to plan for Washington and the New York Giants. Washington finds itself 3-10 and embroiled in a quarterback controversy, with Robert Griffin III benched alongside Kirk Cousins. New York began the season 3-2, only to drop the following seven games before beating the Tennessee Titans last Sunday.
How to watch Washington vs. Giants 2014: Time, TV schedule and live stream
New York and Washington are both playing out the string, looking for positives going into 2015.
Washington might be the biggest disaster in the NFL at the moment. First year head coach Jay Gruden appears flummoxed by his new position, stating earlier this week that he is surprised at the amount of drama that has come with the job. Gruden has already benched Cousins and Griffin this season, and watched his defensive coordinator Jim Haslett get blasted on national television by former Washington linebacker London Fletcher. On top of all that, it appears the situation between he and Griffin has reached a point where only one will next season.
New York has not been the public mess that Washington has been, but the campaign will almost certainly result in a new head coach. Tom Coughlin has enjoyed a tremendous run as the Giants’ leading man, winning two Super Bowls and likely earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, at 68 years old, he will likely be pushed out in favor of younger blood to help the Giants rebuild the roster. Whoever takes over the team will have a terrific young star in Odell Beckham Jr., who has already amassed 829 yards and six touchdowns in just nine games.
While both teams will try to win, the loser actually benefits more in terms of draft position. With a loss, Washington perhaps moves one step closer to drafting Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston and complicating the quarterback situation even further.
