Ryan Lindley will start for Cardinals in Week 16

Despite an unimpressive relief performance last Thursday, Lindley has been given the nod over Logan Thomas this Sunday against Seattle.

The Arizona Cardinals are sticking with Ryan Lindley as their quarterback. Head coach Bruce Arians announced that Lindley, not rookie Logan Thomas, will start this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Arians' message for Lindley, who will be making his first start since 2012?

“Go sling it, baby. There’s a reason you’re here.”

It was a mild surprise when Lindley came off the bench against the St. Louis Rams last Thursday to replace Drew Stanton, who is expected to be out at least four weeks with a partially torn ACL and sprained MCL. The Cardinals spent a fourth-round pick on Thomas in May and he was listed as the backup on the team's public depth chart.

Arians said that team will have a package for Thomas on Sunday, suggesting he could see the field.

Lindley was underwhelming against the Rams, completing just 4 of 10 passes for 30 yards. But in fairness, everybody on offense was underwhelming in the touchdown-less game, and Arizona still managed to hold on for a 12-6 win. The Cardinals are currently 11-3 and one game up on the Seahawks in the NFC West race, making Sunday night a key matchup for both teams.

A sixth-round pick in 2012, Lindley has nine turnovers and no touchdown passes through seven career appearances.
