The New York Jets visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, with both teams out of the playoff picture. Miami is aiming for a season sweep of New York after beating the Jets 16-13 on Dec. 1. For New York, the game could be Rex Ryan's final appearance as head coach as the Jets are 3-12, failing to build upon last year's surprising 8-8 mark.

Miami aims for a winning season in Week 17, while New York tries to salvage pride.
Ryan's tenure with New York started out great in 2009 and 2010 when he led the Jets to consecutive AFC Championship games. However, the Jets never made it back to the postseason following those runs, only mustering a pair of 8-8 campaigns. Much of Ryan's downfall was the lack of a franchise quarterback, with Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith scuttling hope.
This season, Smith has played abysmal football. The second-year starter out of West Virginia has thrown for 2,167 yards and 10 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. Additionally, Smith has only completed 58.2 percent of his passes, the second-worst percentage of quarterbacks with eight or more starts.
For Miami, the Dolphins are trying for their first winning season of the Joe Philbin era. Philbin was on the hot seat for a few weeks but after beating the Minnesota Vikings 37-35 last week, owner Stephen Ross declared Philbin will return in 2015 for his fourth season. At 8-7, the Dolphins are eliminated from playoff contention but will aim for a strong finish against their divisional rival.
A few Miami players can hit milestones on Sunday. Ryan Tannehill needs 214 passing yards for his first 4,000-yard season, while running back Lamar Miller must amass 79 yards for an 1,000-yard campaign. Mike Wallace could hit 1,000 yards receiving for his first such year since 2011. To hit the mark, Wallace needs 138 yards against New York.
