Logan Thomas gets his first start as the Cardinals try to keep their NFC West title hopes alive.
On top of the NFC West all season, Arizona was overtaken by the hard-charging Seahawks, who grabbed control of the division by blowing the Cardinals out last Sunday. That finished a series sweep by Seattle, giving the Seahawks the tie breaker. With both teams currently sitting at 11-4, Arizona must beat the Niners and hope Seattle loses to the Rams in order to win the division.
They'll have to do so with a first-time NFL starter at quarterback. Rookie Logan Thomas will replace Ryan Lindley, who has struggled badly since coming in for the injured Drew Stanton. Thomas, a fourth-round pick out of Virginia Tech, has thrown just nine passes this season, completing one.
San Francisco has already seen its playoff hopes dashed by a four-game losing skid, the most recent defeat being an overtime loss to San Diego that saw the Niners blow a 21-point halftime lead. Hanging over all of it is the Jim Harbaugh drama -- after leading the team to the NFC Championship in his first three seasons -- a falling out with management coupled with the disappointing season means Sunday will be his last game on the sidelines in San Francisco, with a deal to coach the University of Michigan reportedly in place.
