The race for the 2014 sack title sure had one heck of a finish. Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, who came into the final day of the regular season separated by just half a sack, spent the afternoon trading trips to the quarterback, with Houston eventually pulling ahead for a 1.5-sack lead.
Justin Houston beats out J.J. Watt for 2014 sack title
Houston came up just shy of Michael Strahan’s single-season record, edging Watt out by 1.5.

Houston was unblockable against the San Diego Chargers, getting to Philip Rivers four times to finish the season with 22 sacks. That number gave him the Chiefs' single-season franchise record and put him just half a sack shy of Michael Strahan's league record.
Watt had a big day himself, getting to Blake Bortles three times, including a fourth-quarter safety to help the Texans ice the game. That makes him the first player in NFL history to put up two 20-sack seasons.
Watt also had 10 passes breakups, five fumble recoveries, an interception and four touchdowns (three of them on offense) this season, which, when added to his ridiculous sack number, should earn him some MVP votes.
