The No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 draft will end his season having played in just four games. Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney will be placed on injured reserve and undergo season-ending knee surgery, head coach Bill O'Brien announced on Thursday.
Jadeveon Clowney will have season-ending surgery
Clowney will be placed on injured reserve, ending his injury-marred rookie season.

The news comes after Clowney traveled to Florida on Wednesday to get a second opinion from renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Clowney sat out Houston’s Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, citing “a lot of pain” in his surgically repaired right knee.
“That’s what needs to be done to try to get him healthy,” Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said of the surgery, according to the team. “When he’s healthy, we know what he’s capable of.”
Clowney originally tore the meniscus in his right knee in the season opener and had surgery the next day. He missed six games before returning in Week 8, then bounced sporadically in and out of the lineup. He sat out Week 9 due to a combination of illness and issues with the knee. Clowney played in Weeks 11 and 12 before sitting out last Sunday.
Clowney, who never returned to 100 percent after the initial injury, finishes his rookie season with seven tackles and no sacks.
