The Indianapolis Colts may be nearing the end of an era. Reggie Wayne, the only holdover from the legendary passing triumvirate that included Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison, is mulling retirement at the conclusion of the 2014 season, according to Mike Chappell of RTV6.

Fresh off his 36th birthday and wanting more time with his kids, the legendary Colts wideout says he could hang ‘em up after this season.

“It’s real, man,” the 14-year NFL vet said of possibly retiring. “It’s tough, it really is. You have to decide if you want to make that sacrifice again. A lot goes into it.
“Thirty-six, man. Kids growing up. It’s time for family decisions.”
Wayne, who ranks behind only Harrison for career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in the Colts’ record book, cited his three young boys as one of the major factors in his readiness to move on.
“They’re 11, 5 and 3. They’re doing stuff now. I’ve got an 11-year-old that’s all over the place, doing things, playing football.”
Wayne had to battle through grueling physical therapy over the offseason in order to return from an ACL tear that ended his 2013. While he's still putting up respectable numbers this season (54 catches, 636 yards and two touchdowns), he's clearly been replaced as the No. 1 option by T.Y. Hilton. With a host of promising young receivers on the roster, including the team's 2014 third-round pick Donte Moncrief, Wayne's role in the offense will continue to decline if he sticks around.
And you can forget about him signing on with another team with a more pressing need for a veteran wideout.
“I know what I’m not going to do is go somewhere else and play for one year, two years,” Wayne said. “Absolutely not. Nobody else. I don’t have time to be dipping and dabbing, one year here, maybe one year somewhere else.”
