The Arizona Cardinals will host the Kansas City Chiefs at University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday with both teams eager to get back on the winning path. Kansas City stumbled against the division rival Denver Broncos last week while the Cardinals suffered a beatdown against the Atlanta Falcons on the road.
Chiefs vs. Cardinals 2014 picks and predictions: Experts give slight edge to Kansas City
The Chiefs will try to steal a game in Arizona before they square off against two division foes in the final three weeks of the season.
Each needs a win badly, which is why OddsShark sees this contest as even money. The over/under is situated at 40, with the stout Cardinals’ defense set up to stifle Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs’ offense. Charles has been the biggest threat to opponents’ success so far this season, as the Pro Bowl running back is averaging 5.0 yards per carry and is well on his way to eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark once again.
The trouble with the Chiefs is that they are one-dimensional, with Alex Smith’s passing attack on life support. Kansas City is averaging a dismal 182.9 yards through the air, which pits it 31st in the league. Even with Charles’ talent, that one-dimensional limitation isn’t keeping teams honest and it’s costing them wins.
The experts are as split as Las Vegas on this one. First, the two-man Yahoo Sports squad has the Birds coming out on top. ESPN chooses the Chiefs by a margin of 8-5 among its staff, while the CBS Sports crowd is split, 4-4.
Overall, SB Nation’s team scores it in favor of the Chiefs, and the OddsShark computer does as well.
