The St. Louis Rams are 5-7 and destined to miss the playoffs once again, having not made the postseason since 2004. However, the arrow seems to be pointing up for Jeff Fisher's group. The Rams have beaten some of the elite teams in the NFL, including the Broncos, Seahawks and 49ers while taking others down to the wire. On Sunday against Washington, St. Louis can take another step toward respectability.
How to watch Rams vs. Washington 2014 online: Time, TV schedule and live stream
St. Louis is out of the playoff picture but is making a push to prove it is an up-and-comer.
The Rams have been improving by the week, culminating in a 52-0 pounding of the Oakland Raiders last weekend. Everything clicked for St. Louis, ranging from Tre Mason's 117-yard day to receiver Stedman Bailey posting a 100-yard effort, to the defense completing a shutout. The Rams appear ready to compete within the brutal NFC West, if only for a quarterback. Shaun Hill and Austin Davis have shared duties in Sam Bradford's absence, but neither are a long-term answer. If St. Louis can find a signal-caller in the draft, it could be in serious business.
Speaking of quarterback issues, Washington seems to have the market share. The nation's capital is going through more upheaval at the position with Robert Griffin III on the bench behind Colt McCoy. McCoy is nothing more than a stopgap, and with Griffin being benched for the second time in two years, it looks like his time in Washington could be running out. McCoy started his second game of the season on Sunday against the Colts and threw for 392 yards and a trio of touchdowns in defeat. At 3-9, Washington has a good chance to land a top-five pick for the draft in April.
