NFL roundup: DeSean Jackson agrees to Redskins, Johnny Manziel spotted in New England

Elsewhere, an NFL veteran free agent visited the Bayou and mingled with some potential future teammates.

Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson and his representatives reached a three-year agreement with the Washington Redskins late Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Redskins were thought to be frontrunners to sign the Pro Bowl receiver, who was released by Philadelphia on March 28. Jackson also planned to sit down with team owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen on Tuesday.

Last year, Jackson caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards under then-first-year Eagles coach Chip Kelly. For his career he has 356 receptions for 6,117 yards.

The San Francisco 49ers were also reportedly looking at Jackson, but would only make a move if his asking price came down, per NFL Media's Albert Breer. He was expected to yield a contract in the ballpark of Eric Decker's five-year, $36.25 million contract, but no financial details about the Redskins deal have been reported.

Amid Jackson’s release were multiple reports of the former Cal star’s alleged gang ties, which may have contributed to the Eagle’s willingness to cut him despite his production. There has been no hard evidence of such a claim, and recording artist Wale reached out to head coach Chip Kelly via Instagram.

Donald Trump on Bills' ownership group: 'I'll take a look at it'

Billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump said on Tuesday he’s been contacted by an ownership group seeking to purchase the Buffalo Bills.

Via ESPN.com (as transcribed from WBEN Radio in Buffalo, N.Y.):

“I know so many people in Buffalo, and they have asked me about looking at that and I certainly would look at it, but I would ... if it were me, I’d keep the team in Buffalo,” he said. “I think it’s something that is really vital to the area. ... It would be catastrophic, in my opinion, if Buffalo lost the Buffalo Bills.”

After former owner Ralph Wilson passed away, there was speculation of the team relocating. The businessman is friends with Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, who is also committed to keeping the Bills in upstate New York.

SB Nation’s David Roth argues why Trump won’t end up owning the team.

Champ Bailey visits New Orleans

Veteran defensive back Champ Bailey made his first free agency visit on Tuesday when he met with the New Orleans Saints.

The former Denver Broncos cornerback had time to pose with one of his peers and potential future teammate:

Johnny Manziel, Patriots will meet on Wednesday

The New England Patriots will host Johnny Manziel on Wednesday after the Heisman winner was spotted in New England, per multiple reports.

Though there was no confirmation from Manziel’s agent, the meeting is a virtual certainty and may not be exclusively to look at him as a draft prospect. ProFootballTalk points out there may be some interest from a system standpoint:

As our MDS also points out, it’s possible the Patriots will use the meeting with Manziel to gather some intelligence on various topics, including the spread offense.

Don't expect the Patriots to show their hand as the draft nears, but the meeting could mean the Pats are looking at finding a long-term solution beyond incumbent Tom Brady, especially given the fact backup Ryan Mallett will be an unrestricted free agent following the 2014 season. New England holds the 29th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft so in order to nab Manziel, it would likely have to trade up to acquire him.
