Eagles trade Bryce Brown to Bills for future pick

Bryce Brown is headed to the Bills, and a fourth- or third-round pick is headed to the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded running back Bryce Brown to the Buffalo Bills, according to Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly. Philadelphia will get a future draft pick in the trade, a conditional fourth-round pick in 2015 that can be a third in 2016, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Brown was taken in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft, and has been productive playing behind LeSean McCoy over the past two seasons. He carried the ball 115 times for 564 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie, and added 75 carries for 314 yards and two touchdowns in his second season.

With McCoy out in front, Brown's potential to see the field was always limited. After the Eagles traded for Darren Sproles, the long-time running back of the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints, it was hard to imagine Brown seeing the field with regularity.

Once he made it to the NFL, what hurt Brown’s stock the most was his three fumbles in limited starting time back in 2012 when McCoy was down with a concussion. He had those three fumbles over two starts, and then when Chip Kelly took over the offense, he struggled to find a fit there as well.

The writing has been on the wall for Brown for some time, but the Eagles did get solid compensation for him. Brown does have a high ceiling, and if he shows more of the back that had consecutive 160-yard rushing performances in 2012 and less of the guy with fumbling troubles, then the Eagles may just be looking at a 2016 third-round pick, which would be just fine for the Bills, who are still looking for a starting running back.
