Sean Lee expected to miss 2014 season with torn ACL, per reports

Update: Lee underwent an MRI on Tuesday, but the team fears he tore his left ACL, according to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Update 2: The MRI later confirmed the torn ACL, according to Ian Rapoport. Lee’s recovery is expected to take 8-12 months, but the team has yet to put him on injured reserve in the hope that he can return faster than anticipated.

The play in question was a screen pass, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN, which can often include some pretty rough angles for defensive players to get hit at, and generally speaking, the offensive lineman will have picked up some speed, though there is no video of the play so that is only speculation.

Lee was down for some time receiving medical attention, before being helped up and off the field. Multiple beat writers had photos of Lee being helped off the field, but we’ll go with another from Williams:

The “not happy” bit was echoed by the rest of the beat writers. Lee was visibly and audibly frustrated. Mike Fisher of FOX Sports says that Lee “angrily asked for ‘respect’” from photographers who were “jostling for position” as he was being taken to the locker room by team trainers.

While that’s certainly understandable, Lee’s injury history has to be playing a part in his frustrations. He’s one of the best linebackers in the league when he’s on the field, but he’s had multiple injuries throughout his career. He sustained a neck injury that forced him to miss three games last season, and hasn’t played a full 16 games since entering the league in 2010.
