NFL Draft results 2014: Spencer Long taken by Redskins

Long joins the Redskins with their third round choice.

SB Nation 2014 NFL Draft

The Washington Redskins have drafted Nebraska guard Spencer Long with the 78th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft. Long came in at No. 146 among prospects on SB Nation's top 200 big board and No. 10 among all guards.

At 6’5, 320 pounds, Long may have had a lot more hype entering the draft if he didn’t sustain a season-ending knee injury in October of 2013. Long underwent surgery and much of the focus on him turned to his academic successes. But he was a strong offensive lineman, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and coaches in 2012, and made the AP’s All-America second team.

Long was unable to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine due to his injuries, but he did work out at Nebraska's pro day. His workout was more geared toward position drills than it was measureables, though it's worth noting that he had dropped some weight and impressed in those drills.
