Former Miami Dolphins quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino is suing the NFL over concussions, according to the Los Angeles Times, citing federal court records. Marino is one of 15 former players who filed the lawsuit in Philadelphia last week. This is one of more than 300 lawsuits that led to a proposed $765 million settlement that features 5,000 former players.

The filing in Philadelphia from Marino and the other players spans 18 pages. Boilerplate language is used in place of specific symptoms under Marino’s section of the suit. It alleges the former Dolphins quarterback “sustained repetitive, traumatic sub-concussive and/or concussive head impacts during NFL games and/or practices.”

A federal judge rejected the aforementioned settlement in January, citing concerns about the compensation being sufficient for all affected players. "I am primarily concerned that not all Retired NFL Football Players who ultimately receive a Qualifying Diagnosis or their related claimants will be paid," Judge Anita Brody stated upon rejecting the settlement.
At the time, the judge also asked for additional information from both parties concerning the financial details of the settlement. The $765 million included portions set aside for research, education and baseline testing for eligible plaintiffs, which took a healthy chunk out of what was to be paid for actual claims.
It’s unclear how much Marino’s specific portion of these lawsuits is seeking in damages, though the LA Times report does say that his lawsuit “seeks medical monitoring and unspecific financial recovery.”
At least 41 Hall of Fame inductees are part of the larger concussion lawsuit seeking damages.
