The Indianapolis Colts officially cut ties with wide receiver LaVon Brazill on Friday by announcing his release. He is replaced on the roster by free agent wide receiver Aaron Burks.
Colts release suspended WR LaVon Brazill
The Colts cut ties with the troubled wide receiver after learning he was going to miss the entire 2014 season.

Brazill was the team’s sixth round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft out of the University of Ohio and displayed a solid amount of potential as a developmental wideout for the Colts. Unfortunately, he was unable to stay on the field after multiple violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy that ultimately led to the league forcing him to sit for the entire 2014 season. Brazill was previously suspended for the first four games of the 2013 NFL season.
It will be interesting to see if any team gives him another chance after this upcoming year since he flashed the ability to move the chains for the Colts in limited action. He has 23 career receptions for 347 yards and two touchdowns in 25 regular season games.
Stampede Blue’s Josh Wilson writes that Brazill was already on the roster bubble before the suspension given his history and inconsistent performances:
Many fans will remember his touchdown catch against the Lions in 2012 to contribute to that comeback or his two-touchdown game against the Bengals last year or in the playoffs his two-touchdown game against the Patriots. The talent was there for Brazill, but the inconsistency and suspensions loomed much larger. He was a bubble player anyway before he was suspended this year.
In addition to Brazill’s suspension, Spencer Nealy of the Minnesota Vikings was also suspended on Friday for the first four games of the regular season. The defensive end is also likely to be cut after spending much of last season on the team’s practice squad.
