Browns owner Jimmy Haslam won’t be punished by NFL, per report

The Pilot Flying J investigation hasn’t brought to light anything the NFL thinks is a violation of its personal conduct policy, according to a report.

The NFL has cleared Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam from any wrongdoing, at least as far as the league's personal conduct policy is concerned, according to a statement first given to Pro Football Talk. Pilot Flying J, the company run by Haslam, has agreed to pay a significant monetary penalty as part of a federal investigation of fraud, but the NFL is not going to take matters into its own hands.

“There have been no allegations of any personal conduct that is in violation of NFL policy,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told Pro Football Talk. It always seemed like a longshot that Haslam would see any punishment from the league, short of something particularly bad coming out from the investigation.

Haslam’s company will still have to cooperate with authorities in its ongoing investigation, but will not be prosecuted in exchange for paying the hefty fine.

Haslam purchased the team in 2012.
