Greg Hardy found guilty on charges of assault, communicating threats

The Panthers defensive end will appeal the verdict.

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was sentenced to 18 months probation after being convicted on two felony counts of assault and communicating threats, according to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer.

Hardy’s attorney said he will appeal the verdict and will request a trial in Superior Court. His sentence can be commuted with the completion of a court-ordered program. The sentence also included a suspended term of 60 days in jail.

The trial stems from an incident between Hardy and his ex-girlfriend, Nicole Holder, who accused Hardy of physically abusing her. More than 10 images of abrasions to her neck, back, arm and elbow were used as evidence in the courtroom on Tuesday.

Hardy, who was mostly stoic throughout the process, will appeal the decision and has requested a trial in Superior Court.

The one-day trial is the result of a feud that included an argument over an alleged former relationship between Holder and recording artist Nelly. Hardy was thought to be upset about it when he “snapped” and become violent, according to the report.

Hardy and Holder met when Hardy was dating one of the victim’s ex-roommates. The two began dating in September of 2013.
