Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown thinks Andy Dalton deserves a sizable contract extension, but there's no timetable on getting one done, according to Geoff Hobson of the team website. Hobson's Twitter account had multiple quotes from Brown, speaking at a media event on Tuesday. Brown said that the team is "fully aware we have to win in the playoffs," which has been the biggest concern with Dalton to this point.
Mike Brown says Andy Dalton is worth Colin Kaepernick money
Mike Brown isn’t worried too much about the playoff losses, and thinks the team will get a big deal done with Andy Dalton in the future.

Dalton has posted completion percentages of 58.1, 62.3 and 61.9 in three years during the regular season. All three of those seasons he took the Bengals to the playoffs, where he posted completion percentages of 64.3, 46.7 and 56.9. He’s definitely struggled, and hasn’t won a playoff game yet.

Brown said those playoff losses stay with the team all year, but that didn't stop him from saying that the team has had numerous discussions with Dalton about a new deal. He also said that Dalton's deal should be in Kaepernick range, given that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is the latest guy to get a big deal.
It’s worth noting, however, that Kaepernick’s deal is laden with incentives centered around winning playoff games and Super Bowls and making All-Pro teams. It’s unclear if Brown was pointing to that kind of structure with his comparison, or if he was talking about the raw dollar amount, which can hit $126 million and includes $61 million guaranteed.
Dalton's contract is up after this season. The team already exercised a fifth-year option on wide receiver A.J. Green, so he'll be with the team through 2015, but Dalton was not a first-round pick and doesn't have that option. Brown did note that the franchise tag is an option in this situation, but the two sides have plenty of time to talk for the time being.
