The captains of this year’s Pro Bowl teams will be two of the best wide receivers in NFL history. The league announced on Wednesday that Cris Carter and Michael Irvin will serve as captains for the Pro Bowl’s fantasy draft-style format.

The two captains will draft their teams, a process that enters its second year.

Both players expressed their excitement over the selections through the NFL:
"Being voted to the Pro Bowl was always a tremendous honor for me," said Carter. "Last year, players really seemed to be excited about the new rules and the Pro Bowl Draft format. I'm excited to be a part of it this year."
"Some of my favorite NFL memories were from my Pro Bowl trips," said Irvin. "I can't wait to see which players get the Pro Bowl nod this season. I'm already thinking about how to build my team."
The fantasy draft format began last year, when the NFL sought to make fan-friendly improvements to the Pro Bowl by ending the traditional AFC vs. NFC setup. Carter and Irvin will each draft with two active players and a fantasy football champion on NFL.com.
Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders served as the inaugural fantasy draft Pro Bowl captains. They are followed by two Hall-of-Famers in Carter and Irvin, who combined to make 13 Pro Bowls during their careers. Carter is best known for his time with the Minnesota Vikings, and Irvin is a Dallas Cowboys legend.
