Patriots will trade for Packers DL Jerel Worthy, per report
The Patriots will reportedly send back a late-round pick for the former second rounder.

The #Patriots are trading for #Packers DE Jerel Worthy, source says. Former 2nd round pick. Late-round pick going back
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 12, 2014 Jerel Worthy this afternoon: "I’m getting anxious. I’m inching. I just want to get back out there. I’m just trying to stick with the plan"
— Wes Hodkiewicz (@WesHod) August 12, 2014 Worthy has yet to practice this offseason due to a back injury, and the Michigan State product is also attempting to fully come back from a torn ACL suffered late during his rookie season in 2012. He played in only two games last year.
When healthy, Worthy was a rotational option at defensive end for the Packers during his initial campaign. He is only 24 years old and was the Packers’ second-round selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, so it might be surprising that the team is already giving up on its investment. However, injury concerns might have pushed the Packers to sell low to at least gain back some return.
For the Patriots, the addition of Worthy is a solid bet worthy of the risk. The Pats have focused on bolstering the defensive line this offseason with the addition of first-round selection Dominique Easley and the signing of free agent Will Smith.
The deal is pending based on Worthy’s physical, per a report from Worthy’s agent, Chafie Fields.
