Quotables: Seahawks call Marshawn Lynch accusations ‘bogus’
The Seahawks were quick to back up their star running back, while Donovan McNabb had harsh words for the Jets quarterback plans.

-Seattle Seahawks, on investigation involving Marshawn Lynch
The Seattle Seahawks stood by their superstar running back Marshawn Lynch on Tuesday when the team released a statement that labeled accusations of alleged assault untrue.
Lynch is the subject of an investigation by the Bellvue (Wash.) Police Department regarding a personal property damage claim in addition to alleged assault. It didn’t take long for Seattle to stand with Lynch on this one, and it appears no discipline for being named is imminent.
"The Jets tried this whole garbage with Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez and it got them nowhere."
-Donovan McNabb, on the Jets' Wildcat offense
The New York Jets will likely employ Michael Vick as a change-of-pace quarterback behind Geno Smith, and Donovan McNabb isn't a fan of this development.
The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback feels strongly that offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's offense will look much like the Eagles unit of 2009. That means Vick will be relegated to backup duty and will only be a small piece of the offensive puzzle in New York, and McNabb says that's not good for either player. Per the New York Daily News:
“In the situation now, I think it takes away from what Geno Smith can do. It’s a maturity process for him to try to develop into an NFL quarterback. Now you’re taking him off the field or splitting him wide to bring in a 34-year-old quarterback? To do what? I understand the ‘wow’ effect, but it’s not a good thing for either quarterback.”
“It would make a beautiful stadium.”
-Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, on L.A. stadium model
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has never been shy with the media, and that proved true on Tuesday during the Oakland Raiders-Cowboys joint practice in Oxnard, Calif. When pressed about the model that Hollywood mogul Michael Ovitz proposed for a Los Angeles Stadium, Jones approved and thought it was a viable option for fellow owner Mark Davis' team, per Jason La Canfora.
La Canfora notes that Jones likes L.A. for a reason; a greater amount of revenue sharing among NFL owners:
Jones is among the owners who continue to speak regularly about the importance of getting a team to LA -- imagine spinning one of the league’s bottom three revenue generators into a top-five earner for the shared revenue pie? -- and don’t expect that to change anytime soon. He looked comfortable as ever in the salesman role, and no doubt Davis loves having him as his wingman, doing the talking for him.
“For me to say he’s not going to would probably be inaccurate.”
-Jags head coach Gus Bradley, on whether Blake Bortles will get first-team reps
Even thought Chad Henne still owns the starting job at quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, rookie Blake Bortles seems to be closing fast, as head coach Gus Bradley indicated on Tuesday.
The Jaguars have been steadfast in their plans to wait until Bortles is ready before playing him. Given his recent strides in the right direction, that time may be nearing. Bradley went on to say that that he’s trending in the right direction.
"Tavon Austin has been very quiet this camp. He was quiet the other night, and for a guy picked eighth overall, it's bothering me that he's been so quiet."
-Former Rams WR Torry Holt, on Tavon Austin
The St. Louis Rams have a crop of young wide receivers who each have something to prove, and NFL legend Torry Holt believes that 2013 first-round pick Tavon Austin is in that category.
In a wide-ranging radio interview, Holt explained that Austin should be making bigger plays on offense than he currently is and that first-rounders need to contribute beyond special teams, even early. It's not unlike the situation the Rams find themselves in with respect to the other two top wideouts on the roster in Kenny Britt and Brian Quick.
Britt spent a tumultuous time with the Tennessee Titans and showed flashes of being a standout before incidents off the field cut his time there short. Quick is another early-round selection (Round 2, pick 33, 2012) who has to show more in order to get Holt's blessing.
