It's not as if anyone is hitting the panic button on Nick Foles after one bad preseason game, but Philadelphia Eagles fans will be hoping for a better outing when he takes the field against the New England Patriots on Friday night.

Philly needs a better start from Nick Foles while New England has a running back competition to sort out.
Foles threw two interceptions in just three drives last week against the Bears, an ominous start for a quarterback looking to follow up on his breakout performance a season ago. The Eagles need those preseason turnovers to stop, if for no other reason than to get him more snaps with new weapons like Darren Sproles and Jordan Matthews. Sproles had three carries for 11 yards and no receptions, while Matthews had four receptions and three drops.
NFL Preseason
The Patriots had a little quarterback trouble of their own against Washington. With Tom Brady resting, veteran backup Ryan Mallett had a rough outing as the starter. If that continues against Philadelphia, it could potentially open the door for rookie Jimmy Garoppolo to compete for the No. 2 spot. Garoppolo impressed with 157 yards and a touchdown during his debut.
The real intrigue in New England, however, is at the running back position. Incumbent Stevan Ridley is talented but fumble-prone (he's lost the ball eight times in the last two years), which cost him the starting job when LeGarrette Blount took over down the stretch last season. Blount is gone to Pittsburgh, but Ridley has plenty of other competitors. Veterans Shane Vereen and Brandon Bolden are playing for contracts while rookies James White and Stephen Houston are hungry to make an impact.
