Jake Locker lights up Saints secondary

Tennessee’s young quarterback is giving ample reason for hope with a stellar performance at the Superdome.

The Tennessee Titans have a 10-7 lead over the New Orleans Saints in the first half of Friday's preseason contest, but Jake Locker's performance is the real story. Locker is 8-for-11 passing 75 yards and a touchdown, torching Rob Ryan's aggressive 3-4 defense. He started the game 7-for-7 for 67 yards.

Locker comes into the 2014 campaign with plenty of questions. Chief among them is his contract status; the Titans declined to invoke the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. Locker started off well last season, throwing eight touchdowns against four interceptions, before being sidelined with hip and foot injuries.

This year, Locker is paired with new head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who is known for his offensive expertise after being an offensive coordinator with the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Whisenhunt also ran the offense as the head coach with the Arizona Cardinals, leading the franchise to its only Super Bowl appearance in 2008.

However, it is still the preseason. Last year, Brandon Weeden threw for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the second week of the preseason, and we all know how that turned out (HINT: He was benched for Brian Hoyer and now backs up Tony Romo. Good times in Dallas!)
