The gesture also earned the Browns rookie plenty of criticism.

Browns QB Johnny Manziel was fined $12,000 for flipping bird at Redskins bench Monday night, per league source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 22, 2014 If Manziel appeals the fine (which is more than $11,025 minimum for the offense), could be reduced to 25% of his weekly check. Or about $6K
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 22, 2014 Manziel’s gesture was intended for the Washington sideline, and the response was instant on Twitter and in the media. All eyes have been on Johnny Football since he was drafted in the first round by the Browns, and the team’s ongoing competition for starting quarterback has been covered like the Browns are a Super Bowl contender. Even though the gesture isn’t that uncommon, it’s not surprising Manziel’s actions were in the spotlight for so long.
Unfortunately for Manziel, the quarterback competition is over in Cleveland, as Brian Hoyer has been named the team's starter for the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team does have two preseason games left against the St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears, but head coach Mike Pettine already announced his choice.
However, the Browns are reportedly looking into special offensive packages designed to get Manziel some playing time even if he’s not starting at quarterback.
#Browns coach Mike Pettine told The Opening Drive on SiriusXM NFL Radio this AM that a two QB system w/ Johnny Manziel is on the table.
