Quotables: Michael Vick says Ray Rice situation is ‘out of control’
Elsewhere, the Bills find an owner who will keep them in Buffalo, and the Bengals continue to provide the NFL with a much needed feel good story.

Michael Vick certainly knows what it means to be the NFL’s greatest villain after running an illegal dog fighting ring. Vick faced similar levels of criticism and ultimately spent 18 months in a federal prison. The New York Daily News asked Vick for his take on Ray Rice’s release and suspension after the complete video of his assault on his then-fiancee Janay Palmer was leaked by TMZ.
From Michael Vick: ""Honestly, I wouldn’t know what to tell Ray Rice right now. ...That situation is just so out of control." (via WFAN).
— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) September 9, 2014 Vick served out his sentence and has worked hard to not only get back on the field but to rehabilitate his image as well. Very few, if any, players would be able to understand the position that Rice currently finds himself in.
“It’s a tough situation,” Vick said. “It’s very sensitive. I think we all got to realize as professional athletes that we are professionals. And we have to be able to maintain our poise in all situations, on and off the field. There’s just no room for that.”
“If awarded final approval, we will be driven to achieve a singular goal: To win a Super Bowl for our fans.”
-Terry Pegula, the new owner of the Buffalo Bills, pending league approval
The Buffalo Bills faced an uncertain future after the death of longtime owner Ralph Wilson. Would they move to Toronto? Could they head to Los Angeles? After bids from groups that featured celebrities like Jon Bon Jovi and Donald Trump, local multi-billionaire Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Sabres, has reached a tentative agreement to be the team’s new owner, to the tune of $1.4 billion.
The Bills new owner paid tribute to Wilson in an official statement on Tuesday, saying he wants to “honor his legacy”:
Kim and I are humbled and honored that the Wilson family has chosen us to be the second owner of the Buffalo Bills. Pending the NFL approval process, being the next owner of the Buffalo Bills would be a great privilege for our family. Ralph Wilson left an indelible mark on our community and we will strive every day to honor his legacy.
You can read the complete statement here, and complete coverage of the sale can be found at Buffalo Rumblings.
“yep nothing that serious I will be ok thanks for asking”
-Ben Tate, responding on Twitter to a fan asking about his health
Cleveland Browns running back Ben Tate took to Twitter to reassure his fans, and specifically @MarkW2112, that his knee would be okay. Tate injured his knee during the Browns opening game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and didn't return to the field. However, he might be okay for next week if his response above is any indication.
Tate has missed seven games in the last three seasons, and he's never been the workhorse back, since he's shared the backfield with Arian Foster of the Houston Texans for his first three seasons in the league. It will be interesting to see how well he holds up with heavy usage for the Browns.
"Thanks to the Bengals organization for all their support"
-Agent Drew Rosenhaus, on Cincinnati's promotion and treatment of his client, Devon Still
Given the dramatic and troubling week in the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals have given fans some much-needed inspiration in recent days. Defensive tackle Devon Still was promoted to the active roster on Tuesday, just one day after the Bengals announced that 100 percent of Devon Still jersey sales would be donated to support research for pediatric cancer. At the time, Still was on the team’s practice squad, a move the Bengals made to help Still support his daughter, who has cancer, and the team set a record for jersey sales in the process.
Rosenhaus took to Twitter to thank the team and congratulate his client on Tuesday. Here’s hoping Still can actually make an impact on the field and continue to garner attention for an important cause as well.
